Numerous food processing enterprises are clustered along both sides of Shilangshan Road in the Changli Industrial Park. Inside the office building of Qinhuangdao Dongyang Food Co., Ltd., a plaque designating the company as a "Hebei Province Famous Trademark Enterprise"—an honor awarded by the Hebei Provincial Administration for Industry and Commerce in December 2015—has been on display for nearly a decade. While the plaque itself is no longer new, the story behind it continues to unfold: a journey that began with a humble township flour mill and evolved into selling non-fried instant noodle blocks in overseas markets.
Dongyang Food’s predecessor was the Changli County Shunda Flour Mill, established in 1998. The company was formally registered in September 2005 with a registered capital of 11 million yuan and a total investment of 250 million yuan, occupying a factory site of 40,000 square meters. Leveraging its foundation in flour processing, the company shifted its core business to convenience foods. It now boasts a daily wheat processing capacity of 100 tons and employs over 160 people, including 20 technical specialists.
When pivoting its production, the company avoided the conventional path of fried noodles, opting instead for a "non-fried" approach. High-temperature steaming replaced traditional frying, followed by high-temperature drying to lock in the noodles' firm texture and wheaty aroma. The production line churns out individually packaged, ready-to-cook instant noodle blocks that can be used immediately upon opening in restaurant kitchens.
A trademark's reputation isn't built overnight. Public records show that Qinhuangdao Dongyang Food has registered 16 trademarks, creating brands such as "Dongyang Maichang" (Dongyang Wheat Field). These brands cover a product lineup that includes vegetable noodles, *malatang* (spicy hot pot) noodles, hot pot noodles, and knife-cut style noodle blocks. In December 2015, the company was designated a "Hebei Province Famous Trademark Enterprise," with the plaque issued by the Hebei Provincial Administration for Industry and Commerce. For a food enterprise based in a county, this achievement was akin to obtaining a provincial-level "ID card" for its brand identity. Exporting Noodle Blocks to Singapore
In terms of products, Dongyang Foods focuses on "scenario-specific noodles": supplying specialized noodle blocks to *malatang* (spicy hot pot) shops and hot pot restaurants, as well as knife-cut noodle slices to the broader foodservice sector. A single block, boiled for a few minutes and paired with broth, transforms into a steaming bowl of *malatang*. The company’s sales network spans numerous cities across China, maintaining long-term partnerships with well-known dining brands, and its non-fried instant noodle blocks are even exported to Singapore.
In the past two years, the company has gained two new distinctions: it was recognized as a "Science and Technology-based SME" in Hebei Province in 2023, and in 2024, it was named a "Key Leading Enterprise in Agricultural Industrialization" at the Qinhuangdao municipal level.
A company representative noted that while the "Provincial Famous Trademark" plaque was awarded a decade ago, the craftsmanship behind the noodles has constantly evolved. "Non-fried and healthy" is more than just a slogan; from flour to the finished instant noodle block, every stage—raw materials, production processes, and quality control—must live up to the reputation of that brand.
Tracing its roots back to a flour mill established in 1998, Qinhuangdao Dongyang Foods has been making noodles in this region for over twenty years. An old plaque paired with generations of innovative craftsmanship—that, perhaps, sums up the company's fundamental business philosophy.
